Notes

Interesting. As this is a highly customizable metagame shell, I need to do a current deep dive of meta-game analysis. I know that there's an uptick of KCI, Humans, Vengevine, hollow one, green tron. I need to nail down the meta game a little more, then compare this base shell to those matchups, then see where I can modify to gain points, as there can be some pretty wild swings.

The base shell is pretty good against KCI, Humans, Vengevine, and Hollow One. Maindeck Leylines square 1 Make the KCI matchup probably over 70%. I'm probably over 60% on the others as well.

So here's the general principal on this deck. We are deploying a lot of low value but value generating creatures that stymie up a creature based plan. These cards functionally turn all of our opponents removal into 1-0 or less. They also just naturally brickwall. Literally. Wall of omens, Inspector of Thraben, and Miltia Bugler all cantrip, which creates a lot of card density, and naturally insulates against midrange matchups. These cards synergize into Atheros. Atheros turns these low value creatures into engines, as they are lower value than 3 life, which means they recur repeatadly, and gain more value. They are infinite chump blockers, and they synergize with Ayli, gaining life, and recurring, eventually turning on Ayli's removal side. Ayli's removal is probably my most go to option for pesky permanents, but there should probably be some secondary level of permanent destruction. It's also probably important to have some kind of lifegain flyer, as it breaks parity, adds another source of lifegain, and is a weakness to my general creature disruption plan. All these cards add to devotion. Leyline's are also included to add to devotion and add an angle of noncreature interaction. A leyline in the opener, plus a combination of 3 devotion on T1, T2, and T4 make it that an T3 Atheros is always an indestructible threat, which is the main goal. Also adding to the level of disruption is adding tidehollow sculler and Kitesail freebooter, which are more than 3 life value, but offer a much needed angle of disruption, as well as devotion. They pair well with nevermore, giving us the same angle as Humans. Bugler then functions as pseudo tutor as well for all creatures except Atheros. There's a slight recursion engine in dusk/dawn and emeria, which are very passive, and take no investment past the deckbuilding requirement. Then available is a multitude of singletons and slants, which the current high lights are: Serra Ascendant, Worship, Story Circle, Stone-Horn Dignitary, Kami of False Hope, Elspeth, Westvale Abbey, Field of Ruin, Fulminator Mage, and Vault of the Archangel.

Key will be assessing what slant matches the current metagame, what long-game bullets I want to find, and how to insulate myself from the current hate. For example, Green Tron is among the decks worst matchups, and as such a heavy metagame share would make this deck less viable. There is maindeck disruption, so the key would be establishing a fast clock and creating a window. Field of ruin and fulminator mage create excellent windows, but can be lack luster in other matchups. Similarly, Kambal may main deckable in some meta's, as is various creature hosers and path to exile. The exact mash up of creatures needs to be nailed down, as I have ultimate versatility in how I interact with creatures. Dodging hate will be important. I am casually super powered by access to the graveyard. The only graveyard hate that shuts down my engines are RIP, Cage, Void, and Surgical, which all have upticks currently. My deck still operates without the graveyard, but must be played differently as a lot of the intrinsic value engines get broken, similar to KCI, but I have a better secondary plan. Deciding what I want that plan to be and how to approach that hate will be important.

After this, I need to craft my win con around these decisions. The default is through Atheros and some amount of the other creatures. Making this reliable and pressuring will need tuning. Some secondary for of reach via perilous myr recursion or something should also probably be included for inevitability. Westvale Abbey is excellent for this, but also poses risk to LD. Similar Elspeth. Last, the sideboard then fills the gaps of the optimal build, and provides a few more playstyles or bullets.

Thinking about my flying vulnerability lead me to thinking about spirits. Freebooter is lingering souls protection. Aether Vial is probably worth it's weight in gold in my deck, definitely making this similar to other disruptive creature strategies. Smuggler's copter is also worth considering for Aether Vial like goodness. Filtering is always good, even if the deck has a plethora of card draw. 3/3 flyer is relevant, although not the end all be all. Honing this list is so hard, as there is so much flexbility. I really would need to be a hundred percent certain that I'm favored against the other disruptive creature decks, am better against combo, and offer different advantages against the field. Otherwise, I'm just a slow bad version of those decks.
