I was working on another less-common color combination, but I wanted to focus solely on battalion, unlike the former Batt-Batt deck. Whether or not battle cry is in the mix, a number of creatures need to be in on the attack, so I wanted to narrow the focus and ensure everything was doing its own thing rather than hoping for help from other cards. The heavier concentration in multicolor and hybrid spells should help with triggering the Battlegate Mimics. Unlike its spiritual predecessor, The Unit has a 2.45 average (0.20 higher) on a 3/23/11/0/2/1 curve, essentially trading the 1-spot for the 3-spot. This deck absolutely needs two mana, and its first-turn upside is limited, meaning it will likely play from behind and have to use a hard-hitting offense to catch up.
