Every since the first time I saw this mischievous flying prankster back in Lorwyn I loved the flavor. Wydwen provides what any Tempo-Control player always wanted, flash, evasion and self-protecting abilities. I wasn't going to miss out on a chance to build around her.

This is for sure a competitive list, one that I'd be much inclined to register, if I were to play Duels Commander someday. I would probably have to sell one kidney first, but still.

Much has been discussed about Wydwen's role in today's metagame. Should it be control? Should it be strictly tempo? I am siding with guys that disagree on both.

Wydwen are most certainly going to run out of answers facing aggro match-ups due to the abundance of threats available nowadays. As such, we're switching our normal control role in these cases and countering and removing just the really important stuff. Our goal now is to strive to stay one step ahead of our opponent and close the deal in the following seven turns after Wydwen hits the table. We seldom tap out after turn 2 and have no business trying to deal with every threat that's presented to us. Work your math and laugh later at any comments on you winning at 1 life.

We are maintaining the classic control approach against other match-ups though, as we're working with a combination of colors that offers a lot in terms of card advantage, quality of cards and tutoring.
