I see this deck and my first thought is sacrifice and counters would own it. You need to focus on more than just your lich's for damage. Because people can drop something like grasp of darkness or even a dismember and kill it. Or they can do like I do and quag sickness it, or make you sac it for 2 mana. Or better yet I could use my Carnifex Demon's and use my ability to my power.

dismember in u/w makes this deck 100% more worthless now sadtimes

How has the brass squire worked out? I like him a lot: he turns any equip cost to "Tap brass squire". 3 mana is fair for him but I do wish he cost 2 :D
    • Sean Graham | 02-Apr-2011 01:39
hes really awesome... i swung with lich equipped and a shade and he threw a little creature in front of shade and i switched sword after first strike dmg and the shade trampled over hehe... i still think the deck needs "something" i tried 4 hexmage instead of 4 tumble magnets and not sure how happy i am with it... i ususally play out squire the turn before sword for happy lich times. it may be the mtgo metagame but all i seem to face are vampire decks and they are pretty good against me since they bolt whatever dork i have then gatekeeper the lich or hexmage the phylactery counter away :(
    • Sean Graham | 02-Apr-2011 01:40
i also wish he cost 2, i feel its where they need a .5 mana symbol or something i guess, 2 would be maybe too awesome for an uncommon then 3 is kinda "ok" when you need to be doing crazy broken things to be able to compete =(

Pisst! If you spash U you get Tezz; whom can make your D-Steel axes in to sudo Lichs.
    • Sean Graham | 01-Apr-2011 14:27
yeah that would be cool... but tezz's pricetag is kindof not appealing for a fun deck ;p
      • Sean Graham | 01-Apr-2011 14:28
also that would mean also needing to fit inkmoth nexus to go with tezz and triple black is rough///
        • dr_googly_eyes | 01-Apr-2011 16:45
You don't have to run inkmoth with tezz, you're already running 17 artifacts
  • dr_googly_eyes | 30-Mar-2011 07:19
I agree with Andrew (whomever you are) ... I think an indestructible artifact or two would be AWESOME.  I doubt it would be good, but there's also the darksteel myr.

I think a one of for a basilisk collar would be good too, maybe drop vengeance down to 2.

He actually has a few indestructible artifacts in the Darksteel Axes, but that's not really enough to hang your hat on the Indestructible Lich combo.  There are so few quick indestructible artifacts out there...

The Basilisk Collar would be a good addition, but he's right in that a Nantuko Shade + Sword of Vengeance is a pretty slick combo.

A quick word on the Shade, though...I threw that into the initial build of the deck because I felt it needed an early threat, but the Shade is pretty mana-intensive and by the time you're attacking with it, hopefully you've got better things to be spending your mana on.  Are there any other good, quick threats that could function in its place?

Whoa...hold on!  Thow a pissant little Infect creature in there (EDIT: Plague Stinger), and equip it with the Sword!  Muahahahaha!

im playing the nantuko shade cos of nostalgia and its pretty awesome when you run out of gas and have tons of lands - this testing is just in the mtgo tournament practice room... so not many tier 1/2 stuff there but im having fun smashing peoples faces in. id prefer the sword over collar because of trample, and i had an idea where i can first strike damage with one creature that has the sword then brass squire it onto another just to have the trample damage get pushed through, not sure if this really works or not going to try and set it up on mtgo right now:)
        • HeadFax | 31-Mar-2011 17:10
That's a good question.  I don't know if priority passes between first strike damage and normal damage assignment.  My gut instinct is that it doesn't, but I could be wrong.  If only we knew of a judge who could weigh in on this... ;)
          • Sean Graham | 31-Mar-2011 18:46
after lots of playing i really done like sphere of the suns, id rather it just be a land, theres nothing to really accel into and its just annoying to use my mana to cast it so i added 2 basilisk collars and 2 lands for those gona see how nice lifegain will be :) also trying to take out 4 magnets for 4 hex mage since it still feels really creature light and hexmage fights jace/gideon maybe i should try some mimic vats to long game? heh

            • HeadFax | 31-Mar-2011 19:19
Mimic Vat + Hexmage = sexy.

I threw up my casual (Legacy) build of this in my profile if you're interested.
          • Jose Boveda | 02-Apr-2011 00:41
*summon judge* So yes, you do get priority after first strike damage is dealt but before regular damage is dealt. However, by this point the trample has already happened. In other words, if you switch the sword between first strike and regular, your NEW first striker will deal NO damage during regular combat damage step; trample or otherwise.

            *sad trombone*
            • Sean Graham | 02-Apr-2011 01:36
i was thinking of transfering it to a second lich or nantuko shade for the regular dmg step to trample through... and it works! but yeah it wouldnt work if the second creature had first strike but it doesnt so its kinda kewl!:)
              • HeadFax | 02-Apr-2011 02:03
But the sword GIVES the new creature first strike, right? Therefore it doesn't deal regular damage anymore...
                • Sean Graham | 02-Apr-2011 02:06
                  maybe mtgo is bugged then?
                  • Sean Graham | 02-Apr-2011 02:08
just tried it again in solitar and it worked moving sword from lich to a mortar pod token i took 9 total dmg 7 from the equiped lich, then 2 from the equipped germ token
  • HeadFax | 30-Mar-2011 00:48
I tried this once, but I made it as a Legacy deck with Mirrodin block darksteel trinkets.  Does it work as a Standard deck?

I don't understand the Ichor Wellsprings or Contagion Clasps, though...no sac outlets?  No infect creatures?
    • Sean Graham | 30-Mar-2011 00:58
clasps are just an artifact removal spell to put counters on... the ichor wellspring is for another turn 2 artifact cantrip... dont need to sac it just need it to put a lich counter on - it was just random idea i put together in 5mins:) havent played it yet
      • HeadFax | 30-Mar-2011 01:31
It's a neat idea.  Believe me, there's little that's more satisfying than a Lich with his counter on an indestructible artifact.  That being said, maybe up the Darksteel Axes and drop a Sword of Vengeance?
